Poetry Magazine Cover Flats
May 2021– September 2022

About

During the course of two years of immense growth at the Poetry Foundation, Poetry instituted a guest editor program to bring new perspectives to the magazine. From May 2021 to September 2022, five guest editors curated issues from communities who were historically underrepresented in the magazine’s pages; this approach coincided with a shift in editorial philosophy, making space for new people and poems. This exhibition showcases the resulting collaborations between the guest editors and cover artists.

The 15 issues featured in the exhibition were edited by Esther Belin, Su Cho, Suzi F. Garcia, Ashley M. Jones, and Srikanth “Chicu” Reddy. Covers feature artwork by Weshoyot Alvitre, Haein Kim, Jianan Liu, Jade Pilgrom, and Sonnenzimmer’s Nick Butcher and Nadine Nakanishi and are on display in their unbound or “flat” form. Visit the Poetry Foundation to explore these special editions of Poetry.

Offsite Exhibition: September 12, 2023 - December 16, 2023

This exhibition is being presented at the University of Arizona's Poetry Center. Visit the Poetry Center to learn more.
